Summary Description:
I wanted to create a painting about human architecture and natural civilization. I searched and researched a lot of paintings for this purpose, from 3D designs about the symbiosis between nature and human beings, to paintings about sleeping deep in the forest and coexisting with animals, to ceramic art about a large mountain forest growing on the back of a whale.... I drew a lot of inspiration from these works, which are the source of my design and final work.
Visual references
This is a 3D printed sculpture by Garret Kane created in 2015. Pseudo-angelic beings created by human technology with god-like ability's to restore our world and correct the
crises's we've wrought upon ourselves - the destruction of our forests, depletion of fresh water, increasing carbon emissions, etc.
This is an illustration created by SIWON in 2023. It carries her expectations of the world, of which she says, "If the body can't get away, let the mind go on its way."
She said that this painting is like aimlessly entering a world like "The Story of Peach Blossom Garden" and disturbing many animals and people living in it.
This is an artwork created by sculpture artist WangRuilin in 2012, the theme is about whale fall. The entire artwork is centered around the idea that "when a whale falls, everything grows."
Sketches
In the whole picture, the white snake, which symbolizes peace and healing, takes advantage of its physical structure to entangle the building and the flower, which form an inseparable state. This is to visualize the significance of the harmonious coexistence of human civilization and nature's ecology.
The whole picture consists of a European-style building as the background, with many flowers and vines wrapped around the building and growing out of the cracks of various walls. This signifies that no matter how times change in the future, ecological civilization and human civilization must be dependent on each other.
The whale is the main symbol, and it is hoped that the symbolism of "whale fall" will be expressed.
The humanistic architecture on the whale's back highlights the symbiotic relationship between human beings and the natural civilization. Below it, the original fin is replaced with branches and flowers, expressing the eternal interdependence and coexistence in which all things grow.
Design Concept:
My works and ideas are designed around the harmonious symbiosis between man and nature. The symbiosis between humans and animals, humans and plants, and the symbiosis between natural ecology and human civilization are all symbiotic relationships that I want to express. Humans cannot override nature and other species. Seeking common ground while reserving differences, harmonious symbiosis is the only choice to build the relationship between man and nature, and it is also an important content to continue modern civilization.

Design Principles:
In the end, I chose the third draft as my final choice. In this piece, I used surrealism with abstract elements.
The whale is the most dominant part of the image and utilizes the design principle of "symbol". It associates the human architecture on the back of a whale with a fin made of branches and vines. Just like the famous saying that has been passed down through the ages: "When the whale falls, everything grows", the world's humanities cannot function without natural civilizations, just like the relationship between the whale and the buildings on its back in this painting, which is intertwined.
The Human Buildings on the Back of the Whale uses the design principle of "emphasis" to highlight the symbiotic relationship between human and natural civilizations.
The buildings are colored differently from the overall color palette in order to create a strong contrast and to express the fact that the whale below carries the dazzling city.
The Gestalt theory is applied to the whale's body, replacing the fin with branches and flowers, and using the same curvature as the fin to visually express that it is a part of the whale's body, thus showing the harmonious coexistence and interdependence of natural ecology and human civilization.
This shares the same values as USDG 11, which I chose, to create a sustainable human urban civilization that emphasizes natural and cultural heritage and promotes urban sustainability.
Weekly feedback:
WEEK 7:
general feedback: Underneath the piece that inspired the creation write background information about it and the style of the piece. Visualize the elements that inspired these. Include your feelings and thoughts when presenting a draft of your material.
specific feedback: After looking at a few of the works in my content that inspired me to create, my teacher suggested that I need to briefly introduce the information about the works and the content of the paintings as well. The purpose of this was to visualize what in the works inspired me to create, as well as to get a sense of my comprehension of these works.
Reflective:
In this tesk3, I deeply felt the charm and meaning of creation. And I realized that it is not easy to make an excellent work. In the past, I just learned these design principles and felt the charm brought by these design principles in other people's works. When I started to create on my own, I realized what it means to have many, many ideas and inspirations on paper but not be able to blend them into one piece of work, and I felt the hard work of creation and the greatness of artists.
